Paul (Shinji in Japan) is Ash's rival in the Sinnoh region. Cold and calculating, he cares only about raw power and releases without hesitation any Pokémon he considers too weak.
His approach is the exact opposite of Ash's, fueling one of the most intense rivalries in the series, settled in a memorable showdown at the Sinnoh League.
