Pokémon Platinum is the definitive version of the fourth generation. Giratina takes its Origin Forme in the Distortion World, the Team Galactic storyline is expanded, and the Battle Frontier and Wi-Fi Plaza greatly extend the endgame content.
What Platinum changes
Platinum is to Diamond and Pearl what Emerald was to Ruby and Sapphire: the definitive edition. The Sinnoh Pokédex grows from 151 to 210 species, integrating fan favorites like Togekiss, Magnezone and the Eevee evolutions into the main journey. The game runs noticeably faster, the hero gets a winter outfit, and Sinnoh takes on a colder, sharper look.
The Distortion World
The heart of the new scenario is the Distortion World, Giratina's dimension where gravity shifts, waterfalls flow sideways and platforms float in a void. The Team Galactic storyline is rewritten around it, with the new scientist Charon added to the villains' roster, and Giratina's Origin Forme as the centerpiece encounter.
The Battle Frontier and Wi-Fi Plaza
After the League, Platinum opens a five-facility Battle Frontier shared with HeartGold and SoulSilver: the Battle Tower, Battle Factory, Battle Hall, Battle Castle and Battle Arcade, each with its own rules and Frontier Brain. The Wi-Fi Plaza and the VS Recorder, which lets you save and share battle replays, round out the online offering.
Diamond, Pearl or Platinum?
For anyone discovering the fourth generation today, Platinum is the version to play: same region, better pacing, larger Pokédex, stronger story and far more endgame. Diamond and Pearl remain the collectors' picks and the versions this site grew up with.
